|Apart from B.Com (Hons.) and M.Com programmes, we at Faculty of Commerce, GLS University have chalked out a road map for the future. Our tie-up with CIMA has given a PAN India recognition to our Institute. Accounting sooner or later is going to become a global language and to learn the language in a proper and apt way the need for the day is to have global qualification like CIMA. Established in 1919, CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants is world’s largest professional body of Management Accounting with 218,000 students and members across 177 countries. CIMA qualification has following four levels: Certificate level, Operational Level, Management Level and Strategic Level. In certificate level, out of four papers, student is required to give only one paper of Fundamental of Management Accounting as exemption is provided for other 3 subjects by mapping our university syllabus with CIMA syllabus.

• WEBINAR ON ROBOTICS AND PROCESS AUTOMATION INTO ACCOUNTANCY AND FINANCE
GLS University, Faculty of Commerce (SMPIC B.Com. Hons.) in association with Financial Planning Academy, Mumbai organized a webinar on 30th May, 2020, Saturday for faculties on ‘ Robotics and Process Automation into Accountancy and Finance’. The webinar was conducted by Zaher Sayed, a qualified Chartered Accountant and Faculty of Financial Planning Academy, Mumbai. The webinar was inaugurated by Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit who said that the purpose of this webinar was enhancement of subject skills of teachers of Accountancy and Commerce.
Mr Sayed, in a lucid manner explained how Robotic process automation (RPA) is rapidly changing the accounting and finance operations and is arguably faster than any other piece of modern technology.
RPA in finance and accounting is not confined to one part of a process – it can be applied to multiple processes at one time; accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial close, controller work, financial planning and analysis, expense management and tax.By using RPA, company can use the surplus man-hours in Value Added operations. The webinar was attended by 750 participants all over India.
• COMPREHENSIVE BANKING & INSURANCE PROGRAM
|With a view to impart knowledge beyond the four walls of the classroom and to move out of the prescribed academic syllabus, the college conducts a Certificate Course in Banking and Insurance. With a vision to make the student ready for the job market in the Banking and Insurance sector as soon as student completes graduation, this course is designed in such a manner as to balance between theoretical and practical aspects of modern Banking and Insurance. With lot of avenues opening up, the fifth batch of 32 students is ready to face the challenges of Banking and Insurance arena. This programme is coordinated by Dr. Aashal Bhatt.
• BRIDGE COURSE
|The college successfully conducts Bridge Course to develop English Proficiency skills for the Semester 1 students. 76 students enrolled for the course and are given training of English Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking skills. They will also appear for the SCOPE examination at the end of the course. This course is coordinated by Dr. Bhumika Ansodaria.
• “READERS ARE LEADERS”: ‘FOR THE STUDENTS, OF THE STUDENTS, BY THE STUDENTS’
|“READERS ARE LEADERS” presents a motivating thought and a new word to everyone on the campus through White Board placed outside of G1 Classroom. This Whiteboard communicates to the masses and spreads the knowledge. A well said thought churns the mind of every reader and a new word is added to the vocabulary of every passer-by every day. Students with full dedication and enthusiasm write a new thought and a new word on the board and other students eagerly await the new arrivals. This entire activity is coordinated by Dr. Rupa A Pariyani.
• FINANCIAL PLANNER WORKSHOP BY NSE
|The college organized workshop in collaboration with NSE Academy on financial planning and investment conducted between 11th and 17th March. Total 67 students participated in this five day workshop. They were awarded certificates at the end of workshop.
• PLACEMENT 2020
|First Placement Drive was conducted on 20th February, 2020 to provide platform to the aspiring students of the college seeking employment opportunities. The drive consisted of leading company ICICI Prudential Life Insurance to recruit promising candidates for their organization with an orientation program by representatives of the company followed by Group Discussion on different topics and Personal Interviews of the short-listed candidates. The students who were selected by the Company were offered the position of Financial Services Consultant.
• ARTHSHASTROTSAV (ECOFEST) 2020
|A state level ECOFEST ‘ARTHSHASTROTSAV 2020’ was organised on 24th January, 2020. This event was conducted under the Economics Club. Arthshastrotsav is implementing Arthshastranities with mind boggling events that polish overall personality with rationalization and feasible aspects. This was a two day event based on interesting Economic games, Group discussions, Analysis, Short films, Economic dramas, Finding facts, Broadcast of Economic Affairs, Sectorial Reforms, Mind-maze, Dead Eye Game, Tell-A-Tale, Scarcity Relay and Treasure hunt to implement such Chankyanities practically by the under graduate students. The main objective behind this event is to cultivate interest among under graduate students for economics subject.
• WORKSHOP ON GROUP DISCUSSION AND PERSONAL INTERVIEW
|Under the auspice of ‘Kshitij’ – Career Carving Cell, the college organized a two-day workshop for the final year graduate and post-graduate students on 10th and 11th January 2020; with an idea to make them industry-ready before they face the corporate world. On the first day, Mr. Hiren Dave, a motivational speaker, trained the students on Developing Interview Skills and preparing for competitive exams and entrance tests effectively. Mr. Mihir Shah and Ms. Nidhi Shah, representatives of an academy of creative design conducted the next session on ‘Opportunities of developing the career in Digital Marketing’. They explained the importance of having the basic understanding of preparing the logos for business enterprises. Mr. Chandramauli Bhatt, a trainer and consultant, spoke on ‘How to prepare Curriculum Vitae and Build Vocabulary’. He emphasized on reading books as a vital activity to enrich vocabulary and to meticulously put various academic and extra-curricular achievements in the curriculum vitae. On the second day, Mr. Hitesh Devalia, an expert trainer, took the session on ‘Participation in Group Discussion and Preparation of Aptitude Test’. He shared his expertise on Group Discussion Dynamics and the nuances of the workings of corporate world. Ms. Khushnum Avari, an Image Consultant, conducted the session on ‘How to build a Professional Image’. She highlighted the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication, Etiquettes and body language. She talked about creating the first impression and stressed upon personal hygiene as well as dressing. Dr. Romita Swaroop and Mr. Geet Sharma, representatives of a designing school, conducted the session on ‘Making a career in Artificial Intelligence and Animation’. Students coming from commerce background were more than delighted to hear the details about the designing field. The resource persons tried to cover all the arenas of facing a prospective employer and 96 students were benefitted from the workshop.
• INTER-COLLEGIATE SWAMI VIVEKANANDA ELOCUTION COMPETITION 2020
|To celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and to pay tribute to this great sage and thinker, Swami Vivekananda Study Circle of our college organized an Inter-collegiate Swami Vivekananda Elocution Competition for undergraduate students of different colleges of Ahmedabad on 9th January, 2020. Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit delivered the welcome address and explained the importance of celebration of Swami Vivekananda Youth Day. Fourteen participants spoke on the topic “Take risks in your life, If you win, You can lead! If you lose, you can guide!”. The competition was judged by Dr. K.S. Purohit, a renowned Gastroenterologist, Dr. Rushikesh V. Mehta, Principal, Sir L.A. Shah Law College and Geetaben P. Mehta, Principal, GLS (Sadguna & B. D.) College for Girls. The winner Jyoti Rathi from Faculty of Business Administration (NRBBA) was awarded trophy, certificate and cash prize. The 2nd and 3rd winners Jhanvi Patro from GLSBBA and Divesh Harpalani from H.L. College of Commerce respectively were given cash prizes and certificates. Miss Kajal Shah from GLS Law College and Bhavika Tahiliani from GLSBCA were given consolation prizes. The competition was coordinated by Dr. Bhumika Ansodaria and Dr. Beena Patel.
• A LIFE MANAGEMENT SESSION BY SADHU VIVEKJEEVANDAS
|Under Management Week Celebration, a Life Management Session was conducted by Sadhu Vivekjeevandas on 2nd January, 2020. A learned and eminent personality Vivek Jeevandasji is a devotee of Swaminarayan (BAPS) Sampraday. In 1976, he took the Sadhu Diksha at the holy hands of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. He writes for and edits the organisation’s bi-monthly English magazine. Thousands of youth have been inspired by his mesmerizing words of wisdom. Swamiji’s session was based on the three main parameters of life that are Value of Time, Manners, and Flawless command over English. He also added that you cannot progress if you are not disciplined. He advised ‘Learn to manage time, Be honest and Work hard’. He also said that you fail in life because you lack in management of time. Besides managing time one needs to learn how to manage others and yourself. It is important to be modern but it is more important to be civilized. One should never give up our values. We should always prevent ourselves from three addictions that are eating unhealthy food, being dishonest and being greedy. We should manage life by reading good books, keeping good company and by being genuine. The session ended with some tips given by Swamiji to control anger by meditation, patience and learning to accept things. He pointed out that ‘we build the best of cars but the worst human being’.
• A ONE DAY SEMINAR ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP: “MEET THE ENTREPRENEUR”
|As a part of ‘Management Week’ celebrations powered by Wagh Bakri, the college celebrated Executive Day on 31st December, 2019 with a difference. The students not only wore executive suites but also met the real life entrepreneurs in a one day seminar on entrepreneurship “Meet the Entrepreneur” and learned the business lessons from them. Three eminent entrepreneurs Mr. Hiren Sawai and Mr. Nishit Joshi from Benchmark Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Rajesh Lalchandani from Raju Japan shared their journey of success with students in GLS Auditorium. The owner of Raju Japan, Rajesh Lalchandani shared his journey from managing 2 stores to expanding them to 12. He gave many management lessons to students through his business journey like what comes easy won’t last and what lasts will not come easy. He adopted a forward thinking and said that you should always grow, because if you are not growing then you are dying. He told his team to always sell what customer wants and not what you want to sell. He also told the students to Believe in the team, Set goals and don’t be afraid to fall and one day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure it’s worth watching.
Mr. Nishit Joshi and Mr. Hiren Sawai, owner of BENCHMARK WATER HEATERS talked about how after working in a firm for 17 years, without any business background, they started with Benchmark Water Heaters. With the help of four P’s (Product, price, place and promotion), today within a span of 15 years they lead the market. By sharing various incidents, they very lucidly taught various management fundas to students. They believe that money is not important but goodwill and respect are. To be an entrepreneur one needs to do SWOT analysis, have product knowledge, provide choice and preferences to customers, have to always think one step ahead because life is chess. They also advised to do expansion & diversification and to work on the principle of 3D: Dedication, Devotion and Discipline. 250 students were benefitted from the seminar.
• NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “CREATIVITY, INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF INDIAN ECONOMY”
|Faculty of commerce (SMPIC), GLS University organized a National Conference on “Creativity, Innovation and Technology For Sustainable Growth and Development of Indian Economy” on 28th December, 2019, Saturday. According to Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Dr. Ashwin Purohit, the aim behind choosing the theme of this conference is to involve the academicians into deliberating as to what efforts are required to achieve 5 trillion economy and double the per capita income by 2025. 250 delegates from all over India registered for the conference and 110 research papers were received.
The Inaugural function was graced by Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijaybhai Rupani as Chief Guest. Shri Sudhirbhai Nanavati, President, GLS University, presided over the function. Addressing the august audience, honourable Chief Minister said that there has always been a huge contribution of Gujarat and especially Gujaratis’ in the progress of India. He further said that now there are plans and policies to improve the financial situation at the national level and now there will be no hassles but arrangements will be made. The Chief Minister also said esteemed educational institutions like GLS should conduct such conferences and motivate research. In order to retain intellectual property, more patents should be registered which would benefit the society at large. He concluded on the note that the theme of the conference is apt in the changing scenario. Shrimati Bijal Patel, Mayor of Ahmedabad also graced the occasion with her presence. On this occasion, the college magazine ‘College Mirror’ and an ISBN book comprising of the papers presented at the International Conference organized by Faculty of Commerce(SMPIC) in Malaysia was also unveiled by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Jaynarayan Vyas. According to him, in order to improve the current economic situation, young people should think about how to be self-employed. Putting special emphasis on the development of villages, according to Dr. Vyas, it is clear that the development of cities and villages depend on each other and so it is necessary to develop both. He said that India has a unique potential that can be used for development.
After the Keynote session, there were three technical sessions wherein the delegates deliberated on the theme of the conference through their research presentations.
• GUEST SESSION AT PLACEMENT CELL
|The college organized its first career development session under “Kshitij-Career Carving Cell” for the year 2019-2020 by Future Generali Life Insurance on 4th December, 2019. Around 100 students of third year B.Com. (Hons.) and M.Com. participated in the session.
The expert faculty member Mr. Dinesh Mani, Learning and Development Manager discussed about various career opportunities in the financial sector, IRDA guidelines and nuances of current financial scenario. The seminar was very informative as he further explained the scope of the Financial and Insurance Market. It included the various investment options available in the market with a higher return as well as the facilities provided by the Insurance companies. He gave useful information to the students with regard to IRDA certificate in order to generate interest among them about the Insurance Sector. At the end, the expert provided a questionnaire on the basis of which students can explore the placement opportunities in the future.
• “MANTHAN: A THOUGHT PROVOKING MISSION”–AN INTER-CLASS ELOCUTION COMPETITION 2019
|Under the auspices of English and Reading Club, “Manthan: A Thought Provoking Mission”, an Inter – class Elocution competition was organised with an aim to remove stage fear and improve oratory skills of the students. It is an event which is “For The Students, Of The Students, By The Students”. The Primary level competition was conducted on 7th August 2019 in their respective classes wherein 154 students participated enthusiastically. 30 Winners of Primary Round participated in the Intermediate Round on 20th August 2019. Finale of Manthan was held on 9th December 2019. Dr. Kavita Patel, Head of the Department English, GLS(Sadguna & B.D.Arts College) and Dr. Jayesh Mandanka, Assistant Professor, Smt. L & C Mehta Arts College judged the Finale of an Inter-class Elocution Competition. The topics were:

• INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
|Continuing the tradition of taking big and brave leaps in the direction of academic excellence, Faculty of Commerce (SMPIC) organised yet another International Conference on the Topic, “Global Accounting, International Taxation and Impact on Economy” in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on 9th November, 2019. With the great support and motivation by the dynamic President of GLS University, Dr. Sudhirbhai Nanavati, this international conference was a huge success. Being a visionary and progressive leader, Sudhirbhai is committed to take GLS University to new heights and has always encouraged all such events organised by the college. This is the second international conference organised by Faculty of Commerce (SMPIC) in collaboration with CIMA, UK. After the successful organisation of the International Conference at Sri Lanka in 2017, this time, it was organised at Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. There were around 22 delegates from India and 13 delegates from Malaysia who participated and presented their research papers enthusiastically. It is worth noting, that Faculty of Commerce is perhaps the only institute in Gujarat to organise two international conferences, not in India but at the foreign location. The conference was enriched by the august presence of Emeritus Professor Dr. Walter Chee Keong Wong, Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor of BERJAYA University, Malaysia and an avid and scholarly researcher. While sharing his views with the audience, he emphasised on the quality of research and the signifi¬cance of Commerce in each and every fi¬eld. Dr. Wong, on learning about the rich academic atmosphere of GLS University, also invited the students of Faculty of Commerce, GLS University to his Berjaya University for mutual knowledge sharing.
Ms. Karen Phang, Associate Director, Global Academic Engagement, CIMA, UK, also remained present at the conference as a keynote speaker. She delivered a scholarly speech in which she gave a brief account of the activities and presence of CIMA, UK, around the world. She informed about the constant upgradation of syllabus and other academic practices at CIMA, UK. She put stress on the signifi¬cance of the need for upgradation in today’s time and emphasised on the process of ‘learn, unlearn, and relearn’. The Chief patron of the conference and the President of GLS University Dr. Sudhir Nanavati could not remain present at the occasion but he had sent his best wishes through a text message for the grand success of the conference, which was read out before the audience by Dr. Ashwin Purohit. Dr. Ashwin Purohit, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, GLS University, in his address, welcomed the dignitaries and all the delegates from India and Malaysia. Dr. Purohit gave a brief introduction about GLS University and Faculty of Commerce. He informed the audience about the progressive attitude of the college.
According to him the philosophy behind the conference is ‘Knowledge sharing beyond the international boundaries’ which is the key to achieve academic excellence. At the end, Dr. M.E. Jokhi proposed vote of thanks and he assured to the demand of delegates that such type of conference will be organized in the coming year too. A group of around 29 members also took up an excursion to Singapore and Malaysia for learning about their culture and history, along with the conference. A week-long trip started from Singapore where the members experienced a flavour of the local culture as fortunately, the accommodation was right in the middle of the old Singapore city where the heritage value of the area has been nicely preserved. Apart from this the members visited some landmark locations of Singapore like Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, Night Safari, Santosa Island etc. The team then proceeded to Kuala Lampur, the Capital of Malaysia, after staying in Singapore for 3 days. The stay in Malaysia was also quite enriching, apart from the conference. The team visited many places like Sultan’s Palace, Supreme Court, Petronas Twin Towers,the famous KL Tower etc. and learnt about the history, polity and culture of Malaysia. The visit to the Genting highland was a relaxing and refreshing experience for the entire team. On 12th November, 2019, the team returned with a lot of sweet memories, rich experiences and enhanced academic knowledge. There was a sense of satisfaction on every face and feeling of gratitude for Dr. Sudhir Nanavati and Dr. Ashwin Purohit in the hearts of every team member.
• OPEN BOOK EXAM (SANSKRUTIK SWADHYAY KASAUTI)
|Around 30 students from our college appeared for Sanskrutik Swadhyay Kasauti, an online open book exam on Swami Vivekananda on 27th September, 2019. Later, the students also attended Personality Development Workshop and activities like games, group discussion and Surya Namaskar to enhance the life skills of the students on 20th October, 2019. Students were awarded with the certificates.
• STUDY ENHANCEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP AT AMA
|The college organized a ‘Study Enhancement Programme’ – One day workshop at Ahmedabad Management Association on 11th September, 2019 in order to provide valuable knowledge of creative thinking and business ideas as well as how to prepare for competition in market. The renowned speaker and corporate trainer Mr. Hiren Vakil gave his insights on the above topics. 60 students participated in the workshop. It was followed by certificate distribution.
• READATHON COMPETITION
|English Club organised Readathon competition (Best Reader of the year). Readathon is a competition which inspires students to read as much as they can, all for an incredible cause. Reader of the year award is awarded to the students who read most number of books and utilize other library resources and services in the most e¬ffective manner. The objective of Readathon is to motivate the students to improve their English reading skills, creativity and original thinking, to encourage the students to visit library frequently and develop a taste of variety of subjects. The winner of the competition is awarded ‘Best Reader of the Year’ Award (at undergraduate and postgraduate level). In academic year 2018-19, 85 students from graduate and post graduate levels competed for the award. The winners were Nidhi Gandhi(Semester 2), Hemang Prajapati(Semester 4) and Jigyasa Duggar(Semester 6).
• WORKSHOPS ON GDPI & VOCAB
|The college organized two workshops ‘How to Build Vocabulary’ and ‘How to Crack an Interview and Group Discussion’ on 4th September, 2019. The first session ‘How to Build Vocabulary’ was delivered by Mr. Prashant Sugandh, an academic counsellor and soft skill trainer for the first semester students. The second session ‘How to Crack an Interview and Group Discussion’ was delivered by Mr. Rohan Garg, an IIM-C graduate for Semester 3 and Semester 5 students. Students enjoyed both the sessions enthusiastically.
• ROCK-O-NOMICS 2019-20
|Economics Club organized an in-house event named “ROCK-O-NOMICS 2019-20” on 21st August, 2019. This was a one day event based on interesting games and elocution competition on Economics. Games like ECO FREAKO had three levels: Pictionary, Speakonomics and Crossword (identifying basic terms of economics in the creative manner) and Elocution on Economics based on current economic aff¬airs. The main objective of this event was to cultivate interest among commerce students for economics subject. The Economics club is coordinated by Dr. Anjali Trivedi and Dr. Beena Patel.
• STATSTORM 2019
|The college organized STATSTORM 2019: A Three Day Statistical Games on 5th, 6th and 7th August, 2019. The objective of Statistical Games is to impart and sharpen the basic concepts of Statistics and Mathematics through various fun activities. Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit motivated the students to participate in diff¬erent events organized by the college as it caters knowledge of practical part of the subject which is not incorporated in the syllabi. Students learnt the application of statistical theories in the practical world. The games were based on the concepts of Arithmetic, Algebra, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Permutation, Combination, Correlation, Regression, Probability, Probability Distributions, Time Series, Index Numbers and so on. The various rounds of STATSTORM were Overture Round, SKUNK Game, Cubical Destinies, Fortune Balls, Clever Brains and Rapid Fire Round. 72 students participated in the event and gained knowledge along with lots of fun. The club activities are organised by Dr. Devyani Chatterji and Dr. Bhavik Swadia.
• CIMA SEMINAR
|Faculty of Commerce (SMPIC) off¬ers boundless academic opportunities to its students, one of which is the collaboration with Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA). UK Chartered Institute of Management Accountant is powering up business and finance professionals with the right knowledge and skills for today’s and tomorrow’s workplaces. CIMA provides Professional Qualification leading to CGMA. CIMA is the largest professional body of Management Accountant established in 1919 and has presence in around 179 countries. To apprise the students about the CGMA qualification, a seminar was conducted on 2nd August 2019, where the representatives of CIMA Mr. Ajay Lalwani, Country Head and Tasneem Kapasi guided students about the course and the benefits entailed to it. For many years now students have been provided with this academic opportunity by our Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit which has helped the students to find a direction and gain excellence in their careers.
• GST SEMINAR
|The college organised a seminar on Goods and Service Tax i.e., GST for Semester 5 and M.Com students on 2nd August, 2019. To impart latest and updated knowledge, Faculty of Commerce, GLS University under the leadership of Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit has taken a proactive role in including GST in B.Com and M.Com syllabus. In his speech Dr. Purohit mentioned that India needs young and smart students graduating with latest knowledge of newly implemented Tax Reforms. The seminar was conducted by CA Aniket Talati, a Central Council Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the term 2019-22. He started the seminar by giving an introduction about Goods and Service Tax, its origin, and its implementation in the country. He explained how the idea of GST was derived and came into existence. He also described the types of GST and filing returns on GST. He also informed the students about the Seamless Set of System being followed by India which has been a great advantage for GST and the National Anti-Profiteering Body being developed in the country. He very interestingly explained the importance to understand the levy of GST right from products like Mercedes car and to Hawai slippers. He also shared how difficult it is to manage input and output credit in textile industry. Overall the session was extremely interesting for the students. 300 students attended GST Seminar.
• PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP
|The college organized a three day workshop on Public Speaking from 31st July to 2nd August, 2019. Organising this workshop was the brainchild of Dean Dr. Ashwin Purohit who consistently encourage and motivate students to develop their communication skills.
On the first day of public speaking workshop, Mr. Chandramauli Bhatt, CEO, Renaissance Academic division explained the important characteristics of a successful public speaker. He emphasised on planning, preparation and presentation of the speech to keep the audience engaged. He also explained to pay importance to Body language, tone of voice, delivery, pauses and emphasis, how to overcome nervousness. He gave tips to perform excellent in Group Discussion, Interview and Extempore.
On the second day of workshop, Dr. Suresh Mashruwala, a management consultant and trainer in the field of communication and personality development explained that public speaking and oratory skills are very important in one’s life. He shared with the participants his journey from being a shy Gujarati to becoming an excellent cricket commentator which was full of fun and hurdles. He told that there are 6 major aspects of PUBLIC Speaking: Be Clear, Be Complete, Be Concise, Be Correct, Be Courteous and Be Confident. He also talked about the four pillars of Public Speaking. They are:
1. Stress important words and sentences and subordinate other words
2. Vary the rate of speaking
3. Vary the pitch of voice
He also advised to add humour in one’s speech so that audience stays connected and interested. On the third day of the workshop, Ms. Swapna Sai, a certified image consultant said “Addressing an audience and making them feel awestruck is an art called public speaking. The ability to speak in public is perhaps one of the most difficult qualities to develop”. According to her, in many surveys, people typically rate their fear of public speaking along the same lines as their fear of death and at times much higher. She explained public speaking is based on some very important aspects such as the connection with audience, the importance of the right body language, tone of voice, dressing and content creation. She also quoted that “Practice is the road to overcome nervousness.” Overall, the workshop was a great success in which students learnt how to express confidently and eloquently.
• ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
|On 24th, 25th and 26th June, 2019, Orientation Programme was organised for the students of Semester-1 joining B.Com (Honours) for the academic year 2019-20. Students and their parents were invited for the function that was aimed at imparting important information regarding the importance of B.Com (Honours) programme, the syllabus, the examination pattern etc. as well as making them aware about the glorious past and present of the college. The students witnessed an audio visual presentation about the activities and achievements of the college and the Staff Introduction. The Vice-Principal, Dr. Marzun Jokhi made a presentation to explain the syllabus, the structure of the course, examination pattern etc. to the students and briefed them with the details. He also explained about the college’s international collaborations with CIMA-UK, Concordia College-New York etc. The Dean, Dr. Ashwin Purohit welcomed the new students as well as their parents to the college and motivated the students to take advantage of various activities held at the college. Explaining the importance of classroom he added, “You can learn about academic topics anywhere else but more important are the lessons of life which you will only learn in Classrooms”. He also mentioned about the CSR and Charity Activities carried out by the students of the college and put emphasis on the mission to prepare good citizens along with professional excellence, through value based education. Dr. Purohit also explained the importance of preplanning in life and advised the students to focus on ‘Smart Work’ instead of only ‘Hard Work’. At the end of the function, he solved the queries of the students as well as their parents by conducting a question-answer session. The programme was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Keyur Vohra.
