SYMPOSIUMS AND PRESENTATIONS BY SMPIC STUDENTS ON 2ND APRIL 2014
AT TWO DAY MULTIDISPLICINARY NATIONAL SEMINAR ON

 DISCOURSES ON INDIAN POLITICS: POST COALITION ISSSUES OF DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY
On 2nd April 2014 almost 28 students of SMPIC performed presentation and symposium at national conference organized by Study Abroad Program Department of Gujarat University at University convection hall. Students presented and debated on various issues like Advantages of Young voters in Indian Politics, Role of technology in 21st century, Advantage of young voters at micro and macro level-a comparative study, Role of technology in today’s changing scenario,Development theories in economics- an overview,Effectiveness of young voters in Indian politics-Need of an hour. The conference was witnessed by Dr. M.N Patel, Honorable Vice chancellor, Gujarat University. Shri C.V. Gopinath former senior DDG & Additional secretary to Government of India, Dr Neerja Arun organizer of the conference and principal Bhavan’s Arts and Commerce College Ahmedabad. The students were very much appreciated by their earnest efforts for effective presentations on conference themes.

State Level Accounting Talent Hunt 2014

S.M. Patel Institute of Commerce believes in all around development of students and undertakes many student centric activities be it curricular or extracurricular. As a part of the endeavour SMPIC organised a State Level Accounting Talent Hunt since last 4 years to sharpen the accounting skills of undergraduate students all over Gujarat. This year on Saturday 29th March 2014 we had arranged a Talent Hunt and 268 students participated enthusiastically. All the participating students were awarded certificates and the winners will be awarded cash prize and certificates and trophies later. The event was coordinated by Prof. Sneha Master under the guidance of Prin. Dr. A. A. Purohit.

LITERARY ACTIVITIES

Inter Collegiate Swami Vivekanand Elocution Competition organized at SMPIC

To commemorate 151th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand, S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce organized Swami Vivekanand Elocution Competition for undergraduate students of Arts/Commerce/BBA /BCA colleges of Ahmedabad and the institutes of Gujarat Law Society on 11th January 2014. Seventeen participants spoke on the topic “The Indian Youth Today Useless or Used less”. Principal Dr. Ashwin Purohit delivered the welcome address and encouraged the students to learn valuable lessons from Swami Vivekananda’s preachings. The competition was judged by Principal Dr. Indira Nityanandam, Principal Dr. Sirali Mehta and Dr. Nutan Kotak. The winning institute was awarded trophy and a cash prize and cash prizes were given to the 2nd and 3rd winner along with participation certificates.

EMPOWER WEEK

Students of SMPIC organized the Empower Week’13 from 5th to 8th of August, 2013. The primary objective behind organizing this event was to empower SMPICites by a series of informative and enlightening sessions on Indian Economy, Technology, Stress Management, Goal-setting, Leadership, Team Building, Public speaking etc. The speaker’s of the series were Mr Maulin Pandya, Chief Executive Officer, Edutech India Private Limited , Mr Snehal Desai, Associate General Manager, Adani Group , Mr Ravi Mandalia, Managing Director, Parity Media Private Limited , Mr Hitesh Devalia, Director and Co-founder, Endeavor Careers Private Limited . Around 250 students participated in the program.

Management Lecture Series 2014

SMPIC organized a three day Management Lecture Series from 3rd Feb. to 5th Feb. 2014 at GLS Auditorium. More than 250 students participated in the lecture series enthusiastically. Principal Dr. Ashwin Purohit delivered the welcome address and shared his views on the importance of industrial exposure and out of the box thinking for grooming the personality of undergraduate students.

The first session was conducted by Mr. Vivek Nihalani, a soft skill facilitator on Communication @etiquettes.com. He discussed techniques to enhance communication skills and bring clarity, creativity and enthusiasm while communicating with peers and professionals. He also laid emphasis on basic etiquettes and manners necessary to succeed in corporate world.

The second session was conducted by Mr. Yash Pal Singh Kanwar, Head of Corporate Relations, Nirma University on “Building People, Building Organisations As India Goes Global.” He discussed that Man, Machines and Materials are the three pillars of organizational excellence and stressed on the importance of training people in organizations as India goes global. He also talked about the challenges and opportunities as we move towards a borderless world.

The third session was conducted by Mr. Hamish Patel, CEO Azoi Inc. on “Entrepreneurship.” He spoke about the ingredients required for becoming a successful Entrepreneur. He asked the participants to find the gap in society, come up with innovative ideas, take charge, get to gather a team and have faith in their endeavours. He said “ Entrepreneurship is an ongoing journey in which success with your product launch is just one milestone. What you do with that success and how you build upon is up to you and all part of the same journey!”

He also emphasized on the fact that one can not get instant success but has to adopt a trial and error method and settle for nothing less than great.

English Club

Bridge Course

SMPIC successfully conducted Bridge Course to develop English Proficiency skills of first year students. 55 students enrolled for the course and given training of English Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking skills. They also appeared for the SCOPE examination at the end of the course.

Personality Development Workshop

SMPIC organized a three days personality development workshop from 12th to 14th August, 2013. The entire workshop was conceived by Prin. Dr. Ashwin Purohit and managed and organized by Prof. Bhumika Ansodaria and Prof. Rajani Suthar. The first session conducted by Ms. Ambica Sen Gupta, Etiquette Advantage was founded on the results of studies of Harvard, Stanford Research institute and the Carnegie Foundation which states that job and business success depends on 85% soft skills and only 15% on technical skills. It provided guidelines on everyday etiquette issues like identifying the 3 Cs of good impression, identifying appropriate attire and behaviour. Situations and activities were planned to polish the art of introduction, greeting, meeting, resolving conflicts, and getting along with co-workers, winning clients and closing deals. Ms. Rini Bahal Purohit conducted session on Interview Skills and Body Language- the session focused on how to prepare for an interview with its do’s and don’ts. The session threw some light on the attire to choose according to corporate etiquette for men as well as women which help them to create their individual professional image in career endeavours. Mr. Dhiren Vyas conducted session on Goal Setting. He emphasised that the most important skill one requires is art of setting goals and achieving it. Goals should be Smart, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound, otherwise it is only wishful thinking. Around 125 students participated in the workshop.

Study Enhancement Programme at AMA

Under the guidance of principal Dr. Ashwin Purohit, S. M. Patel Institute of commerce every year organizes a “Study Enhancement programme” at Ahmedabad Management Association(AMA). This year, the sessions were conducted on “Creative thinking” and “concentration power” on 29th July 2013. 55 students registered for this programme and the participating students were awarded with the certificate from AMA.

UGC sponsored State Level Seminar On “Development dynamics of Gujarat- Growth opportunities and potential ahead” 29th Sept. 2013

SMPIC organised a UGC sponsored State Level Seminar on 29th Sep 2013 at GLS auditorium. The title for the seminar was “Development dynamics of Gujarat- Growth opportunities and potential ahead”. In past SMPIC has organised various seminar by its own resources. However this was for the first time SMPIC received financial assistance from UGC
The inaugural session began with the warm welcome speech of Dr. Ashwin Purohit. Shri Jaynarayan Vyas as an keynote speaker for the seminar browsed in depth every sector of Gujarat with an extensive power point presentation. Shri Sudhir Nanavati motivated delegates with his inspiring and encouraging words and explained the dynamics of Gujarat through five important points like political stability, security, uninterrupted water supply, power generation and excellent roads throughout the state. Dr Mala Sharma briefed the participant with the objectives of the seminar.
In the first technical session Dr. Niti Mehta, Director SPIESR, presented a detailed scenario of the Development of Gujarat.
The seminar was attended by 150 delegates and 50 students from various colleges of the state. In technical session – II, forty paper on different aspects of development of Gujarat were presented and was chaired by DrHitesh Ruparel,Director N.R.MBA and Prof Sandeep Bhatt, Department of Business studies, Sardar Patel University Delegated departed with enriched mind, delicious lunch and unforgettable goodies.

Guest lecture

College organized guest lecture on ‘Teach for India’ – a social lecture for T.Y. B.com students on 31st July, 2013. 150 students participated in the lecture.

All India Essay Writing Event-2013

Lecture on ‘Man ni Pankhe’
On account of the ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ celebrated by World Health Organization(WHO) from 6th to 13th October, S. M. Patel Institute of Commerce in association with Samvedana Foundation organized a lecture on ‘Man ni Pankhe’ by Dr. Mrugesh Vaishnav, an eminent psychiatrist at 9 a.m. at GLS Auditorium. Dr. B. H. Joshi, Registrar, GLS graced the occasion and encouraged the students to be positive thinkers to be successful in life. Principal Dr. Ashwin Purohit delivered the welcome speech and shared his views on the importance of healthy mind and healthy thinking.
